Nevada Women’s Lobby

Outline of Responsibilities for Lobbyist
 Pre-Legislative Session

1.      Begin to build relationships with key legislative leaders and gain information on issues likely to be of interest to NWL.  Contact key legislators and state agencies regarding NWL issues already identified by Legislative Team/Steering Committee

       2.      Assist with plans for Grassroots Lobby Days. 

3.      Review Pre-Filed Bills that the Legislative Team/Steering Committee recommends the Lobbyist follow.  Contact legislators (if identified in the bills) about Bill Drafts they have requested that we strongly support or oppose. 

4.      Alert Legislative Team and Steering Committee of relevant bills and activities if needed.

During the Legislative Session 

1.      Represent NWL to the Nevada Legislature and its committees. 

2.      Work with NWL Legislative Team and Steering Committee.   

3.      Attend Steering Committee meetings when they review and discuss bills and legislative activities.  Meetings will be a maximum of twice a month.  Present a brief update on activity of bills at these meetings.  This update could be in writing or verbal and can be determined by Steering Committee/Lobbyist discussions. 

4.      Alert NWL Legislative Team of legislative activities that are relevant to NWL. 

5.      Maintain a file of bills tracked and make available to Steering Committee. 

6.      Help coordinate testimony through the Legislative Team, including coordinating with cooperating agencies and organizations when needed. 

7.      Assist with plans for and participate in Grassroots Lobby Days (GLD).   

Attend Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN) coalition lobbyist meetings and report relevant information to Steering Committee/Legislative Team.  (Meetings are held weekly.)
